Motogiro d'Italia 2009, Bologna to Trevisio : We come from all over the globe, Australia and Japan and America and all the corners of Europe every year, just to ride small cc vintage motorcycles on the roads they were designed for. The question is often asked, why? The answer is difficult, it lies in what doesn't show - how the bikes sound blasting down the road in a group, the sort of people the event attracts, the difficulty of all of it, from getting the bikes selected/prepared/transported/insured and home again. Even the way it smells, a unique combination of Italian countryside and gas and oil. The history is strong here in Bologna, as close as it gets to how and where this all began and so that is where this years story starts.......

Motogiro d'Italia 2008 ROMA! : Motogiro d'Italia 2008 - Rome to Vieste and back. This year we started in Rome, one glance at the schedule could tell you the new team organizing the event this year was taking the compitition seriously - raising it to another level if you will. Nine hour days of mountain riding would have done just that but for the first time in eight years, we had days of bad weather. The result was the toughest Motogiro d'Italia yet. Thanks to Christian Clarke and Lorainne Bockmier for their fine photos.

Motogiro d'Italia 2007 - Sicily : Sicily. If places bring to mind colors, than this place is bright sea blue with some deep orange thrown in for highlight. In May Sicily is in full bloom - wildflowers and wildly flavorful fruit are everywhere you turn. Toss in some Italian motorcycles and you have the recipe for this years Motogiro d'Italia which returned to the island at the tip of Italy for the second time this year. The highlight of this years route was Mount Etna, a must see place if there ever was one. Currently active it was kind enough to misbehave on the other side of the mountain, leaving our route and viewing pleasure uninterupted. The 2007 event began for us at the NCR workshop (see the gallery here: http://ducati.smugmug.com/gallery/2835303 ) with a story that began two years ago. It's about a man, a dream and one fast little bike.........

Motogiro d'Italia 2006 - Italy - This is what heaven must be like : This is what heaven looks like....

Motogiro d'Italia. 5 days of magic in the Italian countryside, where time runs backward and everywhere you look it could be 1959. 2006 was my 6th wonderful adventure among friends gathered worldwide. Perfect weather, challenging roads, staggering sceanery, it was everything you could hope for, a moto-junkies dream come true. This years route took us from Rimini at the sea to the Marche region, Umbria (Ancona and Ascoli)to the top of the highest mountain in Italy, past snow caps and wildflowers, every mile bathed in sunshine. The photos and captions in this gallery reflect the event as well as an attempt to document the types and variety of motorcycles that participated in an effort to help others considering the event better understand the many choices.

Motogiro America and the MEET at Monterey, 2008 : After literally years of being asked when would the US have it's own Motogiro d'Italia they finally built it and I, like just about everybody else I knew, was signed up and ready to ride. Conducted under the umbrella of The MEET at Monterey which included a bike show, an auction, the Motogiro America and the RedBull MotoGP at Laguna Seca, there was lots to do and see. The route included the start on Cannery Row, a lap of Laguna Seca, then down thru Big Sur to Paso Robles and back to Monterey. The whole thing kicked off with a bike show in the Monterey Custom House Plaza, and while the headliners were pristine restorations from noted collectors, many of the entries would be heading out the following day for the 5 day ride. Join me for Motogiro America - Vicki's View......
